SUMMARY
CHRONO SAILING

So we weren't just whistling Dixie when Randall and I got a little excited earlier this week about the winds. They were blowing just about perfect. Of course I felt them at my back the whole time while I was riding, but more objectively, I think they were working according to plan -- out of the northwest at 11 mph.

This made for a very fast course. Albert Dall shattered the course record becoming the first person to pedal over 27 mph on average. Jay Palko also set a personal best by an amazing 48 seconds. Brian Bozeman shaved an even more impressive 1:23. The course was scorching. Newcomer Zac Fleckner put in the course's second overall best mark for single speed on his first outing. Doug McKenzie still reigns.

Also impressive was that the entire lineup was a full 22 riders, including a handful who made it out from Calistoga. The age range spanned three and a half decades, something I like to see. The spread from fastest to slowest was 13:30 -- wonderful! That certainly made for a busy finish line. Randall Ray and Kimberly Hoffman got some help from a couple helpful onlookers and kept the stats straight.

Love the spirit out there! Despite all the riders, the parking situation was easy and self-organized. We were also much better about staying off the road when we weren't riding and there were a lot of encouraging words and help for new riders.

Good work!

Joe
