SUMMARY It was very warm today, low 90\'s would be my guess, and the usual summer afternoon wind pattern: SW 10-15 MPH. 10 riders, and Deanna was the only woman. Matt Wilson came out again, sporting a set of flat-resistant Gatorskins, and they worked! He finished the course with a respectable time, and on two fully inflated tires! Riding in his first FNTT today, Rod Matteri wasn\'t quite as fortunate. He rode the last three turns and finishing stretch on a very flat tire. Even so, his average speed of over 23 MPH puts him toward the back of the lineup in weeks to come. (Riders are realeased slowest first, fastest last.) Glenn Fant was out for the first time as well, putting up a smoking 25:55! Wait till we get the tailwind, Glenn! Today\'s ridership was heavy in the category of sweet TT rigs, carbon wheels, skinsuits and aero helmets. Putting 5 or 6 of these guys on the course at 1-minute intervals for 10.9 rolly miles makes for some great competition. What a thrill to see them come in all within a few minutes of eachother! They must have a couple of riders in their sights pretty much the whole run. Albert Dall took the day with 25:11, but check the results page on the site to see what times all these guys put up. Wow! There were a few other conventional bikes out as well: Deanna, who has come out for just about every event, rode her Raleigh, and Doug nabbed the Fixie record with a 29:23 time on his Felt. (I definitely think the SS and Fixie categories should be kept as separate records now.) Mike Neal came out again, ratcheting up his time from last week. It appears he has caught the bug! With early evening shadows growing longer every week, in the interest of safety it looks like our FNTT season will be coming to an end soon. We\'re considering moving to a weekend morning, perhaps not every week. We\'d love to hear your input for times, different courses or other suggestions to keep it interesting and help it grow. |
