SUMMARY The 9th running of the FNTT had a record 15 participants: 4 women, 11 men, and I know we were short at least one regular due to the Death Ride. Jeff Crouch's curiosity finally got the best of him and he decided to do the race of truth with us, bringing along daughter Erika who I believe is our youngest rider so far... Other first-timers were Mary Weinert (Mary rode the course while Jeremy relaxed with daughter Maya, then they did the hand-off and Jeremy made his run), Chris Heath, and finally, we got to see what Jonathan Lee could do to this course! Ben Lev was out again with his entourage, helping to make the scene a bit more of a scene! Kimberly graciously offered to run the clock for us, releasing each rider at 1 minute intervals. It's such a rush to have a couple of riders in your sights and another in your mirror, while you try to determine how much effort to exert at every roller and straightaway, and how much you have left in the tank. Richard Stone was on scene again with his motorcycle and camera, chasing and setting up and getting great shots of us suffering as best as we could. We had a pretty broad spectrum of riders out there, with Jonathan Lee absolutely blowing away the 10.9 mile course record at 24:45. Average speed 26.42! That's blazing fast for this rolly course! We still have yet to see a tandem, single speed or fixie, recumbent, or unicycle yet. Come on out and get tested! Randall |
